MCC Paramedic Program Case of the Month 10/98
Gain of 1
This patient was found to have acute anemia due to bleeding into his colon. Labs revealed a hematocrit of 11 which caused myocardial ischemia. This is the 12 lead
following a transfusion of blood.
Hematocrit evaluation is quite an easy lab test to perform. It could easily be done by paramedics in the field. Why aren't we doing them?
