Summer commuter parking permits are available to pick up in person, April 1st. There
is no grace period for parking without a parking permit during the summer.
It must be displayed on your vehicle as instructed by the time you start
parking for your summer class. Bring this completed form to the Parking
Window, Sciences, Bldg 7 Room 341 with your College ID and your driver's

Students living on campus, You must go to the Campus Service Desk to purchase your resident permit in person. There is no grace period for parking without a permit.

How do I purchase a parking
permit and how much will it cost?
|

If you are a commuter student a permit is requested at the time of registration. Check the box on the registration form and be sure "Parking
Decal" appears itemized on your bill. Be sure mailing address is correct.
If you register "On Line" go to "Request a Parking Permit" and fill out the
form. Summer session permits are
not mailed - you must come in person to pick up your permit. The permit
fee is based upon the number of credit hours at the Brighton campus.
You should include this amount when paying your tuition balance. |

What do I do if I haven't
received my parking permit and enforcement has begun?
|
|
Come in and pick one up at the Parking window at the Bursars or the Parking Office before the grace period ends. Enforcement date is posted on signs
at the entrance of every parking lot and in the semester bulletins. Violations
received after the posted enforcement deadline will be the responsibility of the
violator.

Where do I put the permit?
|
|
Refer to diagram on the reverse of permit. Any variation is improper display and is cause for ticketing.

Do I need a parking permit after 5 PM
and for classes on Saturday?
|
|
Yes. Parking permits are required at all times.
|

What do I do if I am driving a different car than usual?
|
|
Obtain a temporary hang tag in advance, or pay/park at a student meter located on
Arts/Residence Lanes. |

May I get a temporary hang tag?
|
|
Yes, if you have purchased a current student parking permit. |
|
May I park at a meter with a parking permit?
|
|
You may. There are only a limited
number of meters available which should be used on a temporary basis. Student
meters are located on the Residence/Arts Lanes near the Theater. Never park in the
Monroe Loop for any reason. Frequent violators will be towed at the owners/operators'
expense. |

Where can I park with my permit?
|
|
In any student parking lot C, D, E,
F, G, H, J, M, M-1, and Q. Signs are at the entrance of every lot. Employee parking lots A/B & K are open for students after 5 PM with a valid parking permit.
Students may never park in the administrative/visitors loop. See Brighton Campus Parking Map and Traffic & Parking Regulations. |

May I park in the Loop if I have to run into the building for a quick errand?
|
|
No. Registered students are prohibited from parking in the Administrative/Visitors Loop for any reason whether or not time has been paid for at the meter.
Unauthorized vehicles will be ticketed/towed. |

Does a parking permit guarantee
me a parking space?
|
|
No, a parking permit allows the
holder an opportunity to park within a specified area or areas. During the
first 3 weeks of the fall semester an overflow parking lot is opened at ESL
Sports Centre. When parking at ESL be sure to park on the far east side of the
lot (nearest the expressway) Observe signs and Public Safety Officers directing
traffic. You may use overflow only when an
officer has directed you into the area. |

Whom do I talk to in regards to a parking/moving violation?
|
|
Any Public Safety staff can explain why you were ticketed. If you would like to dispute, an appeal must be filed within 10 days. After ten days, you forfeit your right to an appeal and fines must be paid in full without any further statement.

How do I file an appeal?
|
|
Print out
appeal form or pick up one
in 7-341, the Public Safety Office, Information desk, or write a letter.
Appeals must be returned within ten days or you forfeit your right to an appeal.

What happens if I don't pay for a ticket?
|
|
The original fine will escalate and after 90 days may go to collections. A hold will be placed on your account and transcripts will be held. Your vehicle could be immobilized.

Where do I pay parking violations?
|
|
M-Thurs. 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 8 AM-
4:45 PM in 7-341, Public Safety/Parking Services office. Payments may be mailed. Always include the ticket and your student I.D. number to insure proper credit.
If you pay by check there will be a 15 day hold on your account until the check
clears.

Why do I have a boot on my car?
|
|
Your vehicle has been impounded because you have unpaid parking violations. |
|
How do I get the boot off my car?
|
|
Pay all outstanding fines by 7:00 PM or vehicle will be towed off campus for safekeeping.
Credit card or cash is the only acceptable payment methods if your car has been
impounded. |

May I still register for classes with a hold on my account?
|
|
It depends on what type of hold.
Some holds are for transcripts only and others hold registration and
transcripts. In either case, fines should be paid before vehicle is immobilized
(booted).
