Frequently Asked Questions: Wait List

How can I wait list for a closed section?

Register on our website, at the R&R service window, Academic Advisement, or Damon Student Services.

Can I wait list for more than one section of the same course?

YES! Your chances of being registered in a course increases if you can wait list for multiple sections. When a seat becomes available and your name is first on the wait list, you will be registered. Once registered for a specific section, your name will be removed from the wait lists of the alternate sections

I want to take a specific section of a course. My first choice is closed. Can I register for an open section and still add my name to the wait list for my first section choice?

NO! Once registered for a section, you will not be successfully registered via the wait list. The system will identify the duplicate course and drop you from the wait list. You need to either choose to register for the open section or take your chance by wait listing for the closed section.

How will I be notified if I get a seat in the course?

It is your responsibility to know your registration status. You should check your schedule on the MCC web page regularly. Always check your registration status prior to the start of the semester. Non-attendance in a course is not a valid reason for a tuition refund. Know your registration status before you incur any tuition charges!

When will wait lists end?

Wait lists end at the conclusion of the 'add period' which is typically the 1st week of classes in a full term fall or spring course.

If I am wait listed for a course after the start of the term, how will I know if I am going to be registered?

You need to attend EVERY CLASS meeting through the first week of the term. Your instructor may choose to delete you from the wait list if you miss class during this crucial week. Check your schedule on the web or go to the R&R Office for an updated copy of your schedule. It is your responsibility to know your registration status when you are on a wait list. Non-attendance in a course is not considered a valid reason for a tuition refund.

What if I change my mind and do not want to be on the wait list.

Drop the course, just like you would make any other change on your schedule.

Can I get into a course via the wait list if I have another course scheduled at the same time?

No. Time conflicts are not permitted and will cause you to be dropped from the wait list. Financial holds, prerequisites and credit hour limits will also cause problems in wait listing. Be sure the course can be successfully added to your schedule before wait listing.

Will I be mailed a schedule when I am registered?

No. You must use the web system to check your registration status. You can also go to the R&R office or Damon Student Services to pick up a paper copy of your schedule.
