Kitchen

• Cups & glasses
• Dishcloths, dish towels, dishwasher detergent & dish soap (each kitchen has a dishwasher)
• Dishes and cooking utensils that are microwave safe. (microwave provided in the kitchen)
• Eating utensils
• Food & snacks (should you want to cook in the suite)
• Paper towels
• Pots and pans
• Trash cans

Bathroom

• Cleaning supplies
• Shower curtain and bath rugs
• Toilet paper
• Toiletries
• Towels and washcloths

Bedroom

• Alarm clock (w/battery back up)
• Clothes for 1 season at a time
• Personal computer with an ethernet or wireless card (to access the campus network)
• Extra long twin-sized bed sheets and a pillow
• Telephone (should you desire to sign up for service)
• Long-distance calling cards
• Long distance service is not provided in the residence halls

Entertainment

• Board games and playing cards
• Camera
• Headphones (if you bring a stereo/television)
• Small stereo or CD player
• Sporting goods, such as a baseball glove, tennis racquet or racquetball equipment
• Television and cable TV cord (basic cable TV service is provided)

Personal Care

• Band-Aids/First aid kit
• Hangers for your clothes
• Iron and small ironing board
• Laundry supplies-laundry basket or bag, laundry detergent, stain remover, etc
• Rolls of quarters for vending machines, washers, and dryers
• Small sewing kit

Other Belongings

You will need to bring your MCC ID card! Your ID card is your front door key to the residence halls. It is also used to conduct business with the college, such as purchasing textbooks and finalizing your student schedule.

Products for Hanging Posters

We recommend the following products for hanging pictures/posters on the wall. These items are widely available in the bookstore, or the hardware aisles at Home Depot and Wal-Mart:

• Tacks
• OOK® Picture Hangers and thumbtacks (for hanging items on sheet rock walls)
• Snap Hook™ (suction hanger, useable on metal and glass surfaces)

Things Not to Bring

• George Foreman or BBQ grills
• Air conditioners. Central heating and air conditioning is provided in each suite
• Candles, fireworks and explosives, oil lamps, incense or other flame/ember devices
• Cinder blocks
• Curtains-unless they are store-bought and can be hung by tension rods
• Dartboards
• Alcohol containers-full, empty, decorative, etc
• Extension cords greater than 6 feet, or multi-plug outlets (only power strips are permitted)
• Exterior television or radio antennas, satellite dishes or any object that protrudes from a window or attaches to the exterior of a residence hall
• Firearms, weapons, or other dangerous instrument which may cause injury or damage to person or property. This includes, but is not limited to: firearms, B-B guns, paintball guns, fireworks, knives, and archery equipment
• Gasoline, benzene, flammable liquids, or chemicals
• Halogen lamps or other high-intensity lamps
• Hot plates, heating coils, electric frying pans, space heaters, broilers, electric griddles, toaster ovens, and other open-coil cooking appliances
• Items that hang from the ceiling, such as fishnets, sheets, tapestries or posters
• Kegs or beer balls (full or empty)
• Liquid filled furniture
• Live-cut Christmas trees and flammable decorations
• Lofts
• Neon signs and strings of lights (including Christmas lights)
• Pets (with the exception of fish in a 5 gallon or smaller tank)
• Stickers placed on walls, windows and/or furniture
• Traffic or construction signs
• Weightlifting apparatus (barbells, free weights, Solo flex machines, etc.)

We do not recommend any kind of adhesive product for use on walls. Poster putty, duct tape, and foam tapes will damage walls. In addition, nails and screws may not be used in any surface, as they create excessive damage that could be billed back to you. Thumbtacks may be used in walls, as long as they are not used excessively.

When in doubt, contact hall staff regarding changes/modifications to your room and to see if items are permitted.
