SUMMER 2007 SOC 200 - Social Problems

Description:
An analysis of major social problems in contemporary society, their nature, development and social causes. The course examines the impact of problems such as poverty, crime, drug addiction and prejudice on the individual and society. Possible solutions for social problems are discussed. Three class hours. (SUNY-SS)
Prerequisite(s):
Prerequisite: SOC 101

Service Project (SOC 200-C55):
 Students in this course have the option of working with Northeast Area Development, Inc (NEAD) on community development for Track 57 in the City of Rochester, or students may choose to partner with the Rochester-Monroe County Freedom Trail Commission. The Rochester-Monroe County Freedom Trail Commission is a sponsor of the Frederick Douglass International Underground Railroad Conference which will be held Sept. 28-30, 2007 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Students will assist in developing a display on the history of the Underground Railroad and assist the Rochester-Monroe County Freedom Trail Commission in preparing for the conference.
