Description:
This course explores the creative display, organization and communication of ideas and information through word and image. The design principles covered in these courses apply to all presentation media; print, computer, film/video, exhibit and environmental graphics. Course projects will require typographic skills and an ability to communicate with pictorial information. Three class hours, three studio hours.

Prerequisite: COM 112

Service Project (COM 205-200):
Students will partner with the Green Group at the College where they will learn about the new sustainability certificate at MCC.  Students will develop a logo for the Group to use to help to establish an identity at the College.   The Green Group will receive all logos and then vote on which one to use. This course explores the various aspects of graphic communication and will cover concepts, typography, layout and general graphic techniques. Course materials are designed to advance an understanding of design tools and design principles, artisanship and conceptual skills through the exploration of visual elements, order, concept and language. Three class hours.
Prerequisite(s):
Prerequisite: COM 104 and COM 105, or permission of instructor.

Service Project (COM 112-300):
Students will partner with Wilson Commencement Park to develop a poster to promote their winter event, The Snow Ball Gala. The event benefits WCP's programs to help low-income single parent families develop the skills they need to become independent. In addition to raising funds for WCP, the Snow Ball Gala recognizes the accomplishments of its residents and major patrons. Students will also create matching invitations and response cards. (20 hours) F-09
