Service-Learning Courses in Business Administration

Course Number: BUS 104 Course Title: Introduction to Business Credits: 3 Credits Description: An introductory study of business including organizational forms, the function of production, finance, marketing and human resources. Additional topics will be environmental factors which impact business such as government business ethics and current business issues. Three class hours. Service Project (BUS 104-015): To be determined (20 hours) S-09 Course Number: BUS 135 Course Title: Supervising for the 21st Century Credits: 3 Credits Description: This course is designed to teach supervisors the concepts and skills they need to manage work and lead people in a diverse workforce. Its emphasis is on planning, problem-solving, communication, decision making, and employee motivation skills through the practical application of these concepts. It includes practice in hiring, training, performance appraisal, meetings, time management, and compliance with government regulations for equal opportunity, safety, and health. Service Project (BUS 135-001, 002): Students have the opportunity to partner with Wilson Commencement Park and provide either mock interview practice for the residents at Wilson or to run a campaign to collect professional clothing for the Working Women’s Wardrobe. (10 hours - Option) S-09 Course Number: BUS 204 Course Title: Management: Theory and Practice Credits: 3 Credits Description: A study of the theories and practices that are used in the organization and management of profit and non-profit business and institutions. Topics will include planning, decision making, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling. Three class hours. Prerequisite(s): Prerequisite: BUS 104 with a grade of C or higher Service Project (BUS 204-001): To be determined (20 hours) S-09
