ECO 103 - Personal Money Management
Service Project (ECO 103-CC1, 012, 013):
Students in this course have the option of choosing a service project working with the CASH- Creating Assets Savings and Hope- program. Students receive a 4-hour training to become CASH advisors. The C.A.S.H. Advisor meets with the clients to determine their interest in financial programs and services and provides information about community resources that can help improve the client’s economic self-sufficiency. Description: |  | This course will help you gain insight and understanding into events that are constantly going on around you. You will learn how to think like an economist by analyzing everything critically, comparing costs and benefits, even in issues normally considered outside the scope of economics. You will use economic reasoning to decide whether you will read your book of economics, whether you will attend class, whom you will marry, and what kind of work you will likely go into after you graduate. The skill you will need to start thinking like an economist will be acquired from topics covered, such as opportunity cost, scarcity and choices, demand, supply, production and costs, the market system, elasticity, market structures, etc. Three class hours. Service Project (ECO 111-003):
This project is a collaboration with the University of Rochester. Students will be trained by UR faculty/staff on administering the NEMS instrument. Students will use this tool in chain grocery stores, supermarkets and hyper-markets (Wal-mart super stores). This information will be used in collaboration with a large chart review data base that has obesity prevalence data for kids in Monroe county (10 hours) S-09
