Description:
An analysis of major social problems in contemporary society, their nature, development and social causes. The course examines the impact of problems such as poverty, crime, drug addiction and prejudice on the individual and society. Possible solutions for social problems are discussed. Three class hours. (SUNY-SS)
Prerequisite(s):
Prerequisite: SOC 101

Service Project (SOC 200-C55):
Students will have an option to serve in one of two projects focusing on specific social problems: (1) mapping the strengths in a city neighborhood where we tend do see only the negatives; and, (2) helping youth in the juvenile justice system develop employability skills.
