Description:
An introductory course emphasizing key concepts and issues underlying the modern practice of marketing. The role of marketing in the organization and in society is examined and analyzed. Course content includes the general nature of marketing in both a macro and micro context, the marketing concept, buyer behavior, and marketing organization. The marketing process is analyzed through the four main decision areas of products and services, distribution, promotion, and pricing. Case histories and illustrative examples are used throughout the course. Three class hours.

Service Project (MAR 101-002):

Students will partner with the American Cancer Society on their Relay for Life event. Students will focus on the first day of the event: “Paint the Town Purple” by working in teams with one of the following communities: Spencerport, Honeoye Falls, Webster, Canandaigua. Students will develop and execute a strategy to Paint that town purple, the color of Relay for Life. (20 hours) F-09 F-09

Service Project (MAR 101-007, 008, 009):
Students will be partnering with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.   See professor for more details. (20 hours) F-09

Effective use of advertising media, integration of promotion plans and sales techniques with advertising. This course will be offered in the Fall Semester during the evening and in the Spring Semester during the day. Three class hours.

Students in this course will be partnering with the MCC Public Safety Office to develop an advertising campaign that will include a marketing, advertising, media, and creative strategy plus execution for the no smoking policy on campus.  (30 hours) F-09
