The New Student Orientation program helps new students and their guests in the transition to the Brighton Campus of Monroe Community College. Students who choose to participate in Orientation will have the opportunity to meet other new students, learn important information about how to succeed as a student, and have the opportunity to engage in an extensive campus tour lead by the Peer Mentors. Students will also be introduced to offices and services that will assist them in being successful inside and outside of the classroom.
We include specialized sessions for our guests. Guest can be any family members or friends, who are supportive to the student in their collegiate experience. Our Peer Mentors will address important issues with the guests including issues such as parking, books, and meal plans.
Specialized Orientations
Students can choose to attend any of our Orientations; however, we have developed specialized Orientations for specific groups to provide them with the opportunity to interact with staff that will be working specifically with that population throughout the year.
Residence Halls
A specialized session was created by Shelitha Dickerson, Director of Housing and Residence Life, to inform students and guests about specific policies and procedures relating to the residence halls. Some of the topics that will be covered include guest policies, prohibited items, and parking. A residence hall tour that gives you an opportunity to see a model room in the residence hall is also included in this Orientation.
Returning Adults
Bill Sigismond, Director of Experiential and Adult Learning, and Betty Smith, Counselor, in the Counseling and Advising Center, will facilitate a special session for returning adults and their
guests. This session will address an experiential learning, CLEP tests, late start, accelerated, and intersession courses. We encourage all returning adult students to bring all their questionsto this session.
Athlete Orientation
This Orientation will provide athletes the opportunity to interact with other student athletes and also meet with the coach of their respective teams.
