Health Career Students

Health Services oversees the clearance process for clinical participation for all health career students. Certain health requirements must be met to protect both you and your patient in the programs listed below. The required health documents are detailed below.

There are many urgent care centers locally for physical exams and fees vary. Please note that religious exemptions from required vaccinations are not acceptable in clinical settings, per NYS Health Department regulations (however, they are allowed for college attendance).

  • CLT, Dental, Nursing, Radiation and Surgical Tech students taking clinical courses must maintain health insurance.
  • Students are automatically enrolled and billed by the college for the Student Health Insurance Plan through Allen J. Flood, Inc., unless proof of comparable coverage is provided. If you have comparable insurance, you may waive the school's contracted plan.
  • You may waive online at mystudentmedical(once the information for the current school year is posted by the Flood company).
  • Please contact Angela French, the A.J. Flood representative directly for more specifics or questions about waiving the insurance ( afrench@ajfusa or 1-800-734-9225).
  • Please check with your individual program for more information about the insurance waiver process, as some programs may waive for students.
  • You may explore options for comparable insurance at the New York State of Health Marketplace website. Many MCC students qualify for low or no cost insurance available through this program, and enrollment for these particular programs is year round.

You must submit the following annually:

1. Reassessment Form and either:

  • Schedule a free PPD in Health Services or submit proof of a recent PPD (with placement & read dates, as well as result and signature of HCP)   OR
  • For those with a past positive PPD, please complete a TB screening form .

2. Flu vaccine
3. Tetanus booster if 10 years have passed since your last dose.

The staff in Health Services wish you success in your chosen health career and are available to facilitate the process of clearance for clinical participation in any way we can. If you have further questions, please call us at 585-292-2018.
