Communication / Media Arts, A.S. (CM01)

Program Description:

The Communication and Media Arts program emphasizes courses in writing, speaking, and the media, providing an excellent foundation in liberal arts and sciences. This program prepares students for transfer in areas such as print and broadcast journalism, media and public relations, corporate communications, and graphic design and advertising.

1st Semester - (15 credits)

  • ENG 101 - College Composition or ENG 200 - Advanced Composition
  • COM 101 - Intro to Mass Media
  • SPC 141 - Interpersonal Communication or SPC 143 Small Group Communication
  • MTH 150 - Survey of Math (or higher)
  • Social Science Elective

2nd Semester - (17 credits)

  • ENG 250 - Professional Communication
  • COM 109 - Intro to Public Relations or COM 141 Intro to Radio / TV
  • COM 120 Media Literacy
  • Humanities Elective
  • Natural Science Elective
  • Health / Physical Education: Courses can be 1 or 2 credits. Two req. for degree.

3rd Semester - (15 credits)

  • COM 131 - Print Journalism or COM 230 - Scriptwriting
  • COM 150 - Video Production and Editing or PHO 106 - Photography I
  • Social Science Elective
  • Natural Science Elective
  • Elective: Credit bearing as recommended by advisor
