Interior design is more than making pretty spaces. The interior designer is charged with creating environments that support the health, safety, and functional needs of the users of those spaces. While the visual impact of a design may be the most noticable product of the designer's work, the true success of a design is measured in the way that the right choices of layout and materials work for the client's benefit.
"This is much more than Trading Spaces..."
...The successful interior designer must be knowledgeable in a wide variety of areas. From a thorough knowledge of how materials perform, to the physiological impact of space and form, to how the law regulates what may and may not be done in an interior, the designer has a responsibility to provide appropriate choices to support the client's needs.
Traditionally, a designer must have a good sense of aesthetics and style. But today's practice of design requires a fluent ability with mathematics, the use of computers. A successful designer is personable and outgoing with a desire to continue learning and growing as the field of design grows and changes. For those who meet these requirements, the interior design program at MCC is a great way to start!
