ELT 232 - System Electronics

4 Credits

This course introduces students to the use of analog and digital electronics in the control of electrical and nonelectrical processes. Students are introduced to the use of sensors, actuators, and control circuitry along with the use of micro-controllers in controlling various processes. Three class hours, two laboratory hours.

Prerequisite: ELT 130 or PHY 231 or ELT 121.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Analyze simple circuits which contain various electronic devices to determine DC operation.
2. Explain motor and generator operation using electrical characteristics and mechanical construction.
3. Identify the basic parts of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) both hardware & software and use to describe PLC operation.
4. Measure basic circuit signals and component resistance using the DMM and oscilloscope.
5. Construct basic electronic circuits using a schematic circuit, components and breadboard.
6. Predict the output of a digital circuit using digital logic and use it to test digital circuit operation.
7. Apply a circuit simulation program to analyze a simple electronic circuit.
