This degree is a university-parallel program designed to be the first two years of a bachelor degree program. Information systems professionals play a key and vital role in the management and growth of an organization. These professionals become the creative problem-solving innovators who define the information needs and develop related organizational structures in a variety of fields such as health care, business, and government.
The curriculum reflects the recommendations of professional computing associations and a national task force. The program develops in the students a basic understanding of computer skills and strategies to be applied in the discipline of computer information systems. The program introduces students to the business disciplines of accounting, marketing, economics and management. The core courses within this program provide students with communication, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills.
Bachelor degree programs in this academic discipline go by a wide variety of names such as information systems, computer information systems, management information systems, technology management and information management. The defining characteristic is required coursework in both computing and business.
