CRC 201 - Introduction to UNIX

This course provides the student with hands-on experience with UNIX command-line functions, the VI editor, file management tools, and command shells. The student will learn user-level commands and gain basic knowledge about the UNIX operating system. A project will be assigned to be completed outside of class time.

Prerequisite: CSC 101 or CIS 200 with a grade of C or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Describe the history and evolution of the UNIX operating system.
2. List directories of files and effectively use wildcard characters.
3. Create and edit a file using the vi editor.
4. Apply file access permissions.
5. Demonstrate the steps in monitoring the status of systems resources.
6. Implement the available communication utilities.
