The Psychology of Eating, Body Image, and Wellness focuses on the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual approaches to food cultivation, processing, preparation, and consumption, as well as the relationships among dietary patterns, exercise, dieting, and obesity. Discussions, films, and readings will focus on the continuum that exists from health-promoting, competent eating to unhealthy, disordered eating, and the relationships among body-image, eating, self-acceptance, and culture.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Describe and differentiate biological, psychological, social, and spiritual approaches to food cultivation, processing, preparation, and consumption.
2. Discuss the role of the government and the food industry in subsidizing and producing hyper-palatable foods.
3. Describe the continuum that exists from healthy and "competent" eating to unhealthy and "disordered" eating.
4. Explain the relationships among dietary patterns, dieting, and obesity.
5. Describe the role of exercise in healthy living and its relationship to eating, weight, and mood.
6. Analyze the relationships among body-image, eating, culture, and self-acceptance.
