THE 147 - Readers' Theatre

3 Credits

The oral interpretation of poetry, prose and dramatic literature through the survey of both historical and contemporary literary works. Process includes analysis of literature in accordance with the time and conventions in which it was written, and development of the technical skills involved in performing literature as a Readers Theatre performance for an audience.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Analyze written material in terms of purpose, point of view, mood, theme, literary devices, setting, persona, syllabic emphasis, and focus
2. Critically interpret various literary works within the context of the period in which they were written
3. Compose a validated introduction to a performance of written material based on author intent
4. Implement effective editing techniques in order to prepare written material for the stage
5. Perform various examples of prose, poetry, and dramatic literature with an emphasis on character, insight, voice, and movement
6. Evaluate personal performance and peer performances based on character, insight, voice, movement, focus, and reaction
