U.S. Labor Secretary to Visit MCC, Highlight $14.6M Grant
for Advanced Manufacturing Training Initiative



WHAT: Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis will tour Monroe Community College’s Applied Technologies Center and highlight a $14.6 million federal grant that was awarded this week to a consortium of SUNY community colleges to provide job training and education in advanced manufacturing.

Led by MCC, the consortium will design, implement and deliver curricula to address the needs of industry employers as part of the Training and Education in Advanced Manufacturing (TEAM) Educational Pathways Project. The initiative will provide more than 3,000 of New York’s Trade Adjustment Assistance-eligible workers and unemployed veterans with training and education required to find high-quality, high-wage jobs within the advanced manufacturing sector.

The grant-funded initiative complements the goals of MCC’s Completion: Our Community’s Next Promise conference also scheduled for Monday, Sept. 24. Higher education leaders from across the country will gather on MCC’s Brighton Campus to share ideas, identify innovative models and discuss best practices and potential partnerships to address the critical issue of college completion.
