MCC’s Mercer Gallery Presents
“Artists in Unlikely Places”
Non-art teaching faculty share the creativity that thrives outside their subject of expertise (10/27/2009)
An anthropology professor who paints. An English faculty member who creates needlepoint. A language professor who takes award-winning photographs. Monroe Community College faculty and staff members have submitted their best artistic work for inclusion in the upcoming Mercer Gallery exhibition “Artists in Unlikely Places.”
Inspired by Anthropology Professor Emeritus David Day, the exhibit will feature works produced by non-art teaching faculty and staff from throughout the college. MCC retirees and emeritus faculty are included among the participants.
“Artists in Unlikely Places,” which runs from Friday, Oct. 30 – Friday, Nov. 13, will be curated by Kathleen Farrell, art professor and Mercer Gallery director and Tony Leuzzi, assistant professor in the English/Philosphy Department. “This show demonstrates how critical art and the creative process are to all,” said Farrell.
An opening reception will be held 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30.
Artists in Unlikely Places are: Charlene Blanchard (Health Professions), Jayalaxmi Chakravarthy (Office and Computer Programs), David Day (Professor Emeritus, Anthropology), Robert DeFelice (English), Mary Disano (Biology), Suzanne Elrayess (ESOL/Foreign Languages), E.
