2 Women Among New MCC Graduates to Begin Careers in Machining (11/14/2018)

Note: This is an ARCHIVED news release. Information in this article may have changed since this was published.

Participants complete accelerated training, have jobs lined up

WHAT: As seven Monroe Community College students complete the accelerated precision tooling certificate program this week, all have already received job offers from advanced manufacturers. Allison Maus (Bergen, Genesee County), the top student in the program, and Ann Simpson (Brighton), the other female student in the class, will embark on careers with Rochester companies upon completing the program. This is the eighth class to complete the program since the program’s inception in 2013. Of those who completed the program over the past five years, nearly 80 percent found work or continued their education.

WHERE/WHEN: In recognition of the students’ academic achievements, a celebration will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at MCC’s Applied Technologies Center, 2485 W. Henrietta Road in Brighton. Jeff Adair, chief economic development officer for Monroe County, will serve as keynote speaker.

DETAILS: Designed in response to the advanced manufacturing industry’s immediate need for skilled workers, the training program enables unemployed and underemployed Finger Lakes region residents to gain education and hands-on training in advanced manufacturing, earn a certificate in half the time, and find employment within a year. Because of financial support through various grants such as NY Inspire and LadderzUP, participants receive education and hands-on training at little to no cost. Upon completing the accelerated precision tooling certificate program, graduates receive job placement assistance from Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association and have the opportunity to continue their education in the future toward an associate degree in machining.
