MCC Students Walk for Water, Hope to Raise $4,000 (10/01/2013)

HGHRP Walk for Water

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –Student leaders of Monroe Community College’s Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project will host a 5K Walk for Water to benefit Water for South Sudan, Inc. on Saturday morning, October 5 at MCC. Their goal is to raise $4,000 to fund the drilling of safe-water wells in Southern Sudan.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.; the walk begins at 10 a.m. in Lot G rain or shine. Registration fee is $12 per person. Prizes will be awarded for top fundraisers.

Since 2006, MCC students and community supporters have raised more than $50,000 for Water for South Sudan. In 2009, a well in Sudan was dedicated in MCC’s name. Water for South Sudan was founded by MCC alumnus Salva Dut ( The organization has built 177 wells to date, enabling more than 400,000 South Sudanese villagers to thrive, develop centers of commerce and educate women and children.
