IDE 102 - Introduction to Interior Design II

3 Credits

As a continuation of IDE101, this course explores the physical properties of the built environment. Through discussion of building codes, construction technologies, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems a basic understanding of the built environment will be addressed. Consideration will be given to interior building components, materials, and furnishings.

Prerequisite: IDE 101 with a grade of C or better

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Select appropriate materials for application in the interior.
2. Select appropriate interior components such as windows, doors, and stairs.
3. Describe the basic tenets of building codes and regulations.
4. Summarize the considerations for operating an interior design business.
5. Identify the components of a typical residential building system.
6. Identify the approaches to environmental control in the interior.
7. Describe the design of a basic electrical system.
8. Identify the types and characteristics of interior lighting sources.
9. Describe the application of lighting in the interior.
