SPC 241 - Advanced Interpersonal Communication

3 Credits

This course will provide students the chance to analyze their interpersonal communication skills and further expand competency through application in personal and professional life situations. Students will examine the impact of technology, gender, nonverbals, and cultural diversity on communication in families, with friends and romantic partners, and in their professional lives. Interpersonal skills will be integrated into the interviewing process and conflict resolution. A portfolio will be developed that reflects the self-examination and adjustment of interpersonal skills in personal and professional relationships.

Prerequisite SPC 141

1. Identify individual interpersonal communication skill competencies.
2. Compare and contrast the impact of technology on interpersonal relationships.
3. Analyze personal communication preferences or biases, as each relates to culture.
4. Adapt interpersonal communication skills to manage the interviewee role in professional settings.
5. Develop mediation skills to resolve conflicts.
6. Demonstrate effective use of communication strategies by adapting one's own interpersonal communication.
7. Analyze personal communication preferences or biases, as each relates to gender.
8. Adapt interpersonal communication skills to manage the interviewer role in professional settings.
