ROCHESTER, N.Y. –March 2, 2009- The Curious, the Ignorant and the Idle, the work of artist Alice Leora Briggs, will be exhibited Friday, April 3 – Friday, May 1 in the Mercer Gallery at Monroe Community College.
Alice Leora Briggs attempts to portray how the world looks through her eyes, capturing both its imperfections and veracious qualities. By combining image fragments of inspirations from other artists’ work, drawings, photographs from newspapers and magazines, Briggs creates her intricately layered arrangements. Her style of artwork, called sgraffito, consists of an acrylic and ink covered clay base, precisely etched with an x-acto knife.
Briggs’ drawings have been recognized throughout the country, including at the Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco, University of Iowa Museum of Art, and the Tucson Museum of Art. She has worked as an adjunct art professor at the University of Arizona and been a visiting artist at the Tucson Museum of Art.
An opening reception will be held Friday, April 3, 7 – 9 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
