ROCHESTER, N.Y. –April 8, 2013– The following Monroe Community College students recently received awards and honors recognizing their achievements. Town of residence is listed in parentheses.
Elizabeth Kennedy (Perinton) has been named a 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar. Only 50 students from more than 1,800 nominations were selected for the national honor, based on academic achievement, leadership skills and community engagement. Kennedy received a $1,250 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and a medallion at an awards ceremony in San Jose, Calif., on April 5.
Kennedy, president of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s MCC chapter, expects to graduate in June with an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences‒science with a concentration in chemistry.
In addition to Kennedy, three MCC students also have been named to the All-USA Community College Academic Team and the All-New York Academic Team, based on outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community. Anne Marie Botshare (Rochester), Christine Kuhn (Webster) and Christopher Morris (Rochester) each received a medallion. Phi Theta Kappa co-sponsors the Academic Team recognition programs.
Botshare is a liberal arts and sciences‒general studies student who will enter the nursing program in fall 2013. Kuhn, a vice president of MCC’s honor society, is a liberal arts and sciences‒general studies major and plans to graduate in June. Morris, also a vice president of MCC’s honor society, expects to earn a degree in liberal arts and sciences‒humanities and social science in June. The students were recognized at a Phi Theta Kappa event in Albany, N.Y., on April 4.
