New features

I noticed the system has been upgraded, what new features are there?

Over the holiday break the Student E-Mail system was upgraded from Microsoft Outlook Web Access v2000 to v2003. The new system has been greatly improved. Although many of the new features will work under any relatively current web browser, some of the following improvements will only be available if you are connecting using Microsoft Internet Explorer v5.0 or newer.

The new improvements include:

  • Faster response time

  • Larger disk quotas – 40 MB vs. 20 MB

  • Drag-n-drop messages into folders

  • Drag-n-drop calendar appointments

  • Drag-n-drop calendar start/end times

  • Rich text formatting of message text (colors, font size, font style, bullets, etc.)

  • Message preview pane

  • Ability to bulk select messages for deletion by simply selecting and hitting the delete key standard Windows Shift/Ctrl section technique)

  • To, CC, and BCC directory buttons

  • Personal distribution lists

  • Full text search of your mailbox and subfolders to locate messages

  • Multimedia voice/video recording/playback capability on PCs Note: To use this feature you need to download multimedia add-on from the options menu and be using Microsoft Windows PC, running Internet Explorer v5.0 or higher and have at least a microphone. To capture video, you need to have a video/web camera attached to your computer

  • Empty deleted items folder

  • Improved views on mail, calendar, and contact folders

  • Ability to sort message lists by From/To, Subject, and Received date

  • Improved date selection on appointments

  • Pop-up new mail notifications

  • New views added (e.g. Ability to see "sent to" in sent items)

  • Right click context menus on folder view

  • IMAP capability – Coming soon, watch for Student E-Mail Broadcast’s announcing availability
