Participating in the Monroe Advantage Program will give you an edge when you enter college — you’ll already have completed a college course in a college environment, so you’ll have more confidence and an easier transition from high school to college.
When you take a course through the Monroe Advantage Program, you’ll receive the same academic credit as any college student at MCC. This credit can be counted toward a degree at MCC or you can transfer the credit to colleges and universities nationwide. Unlike an AP course, MCC courses take just one semester (11 or 15 weeks) to complete (6 weeks for a summer class), and you are graded on a full semester’s work, not just one exam.
If you enroll in just one college course each semester and summer of your junior and senior years, you’ll have accumulated an entire semester of college credit before graduating from high school!
It’s easy to fit an MCC class around your high school schedule. Classes are offered throughout the day and into the evening, on Saturdays and online. Evening courses generally meet once a week, daytime courses meet two or three times a week, and online courses have no specific meeting times.
The cost of an MCC course is based on the number of credit hours for which you enroll. For current tuition rates and fees, visit www.monroecc.edu, and click on Prospective Students. The majority of MCC courses are 3 credit hours, some specialized courses are 4 credit hours.
The Monroe Advantage Program offers a number of special services to its students, starting with individual counseling before enrollment, an orientation session before classes begin, and continuing contacts during the semester. Monroe Advantage students also have access to the library, computer centers, student clubs and activities, plus athletic and recreation facilities, fitness centers, the PAC field house, pool, and racquetball courts.
