By now, most in our College community have heard about the controversy surrounding the song “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke – our students surely have heard! This Sociology Film Series at DCC event will examine the original video and lyrics, along with a portion of Thicke’s Video Music Awards performance, juxtaposed with a feminist analysis of sexual consent in what many call a “rape culture” in the United States. We have just begun planning, but want to give you all this “save the date”, especially if you would like to bring your students.
DATE: Thursday, October 10, 2013
TIME: 12:30pm – 1:30pm (presentation with Q & A to follow)
PLACE: Room 4151 – Damon City Campus
PRESENTERS: Susan Bender, VaPA and MVP-MCC
Christine Plumeri, AHPS and MVP-MCC
There may be additional presenters and, as always, this Film Series is free and open to the public. Food will be provided. Given the content of this presentation, no children will be allowed to attend. This event is sponsored by Mentors in Violence Prevention at MCC (MVP-MCC), DCC’s Office of Campus Life, the DCC Civility Committee, the Department of Anthropology/History/Political Science/Sociology (AHPS) and the Department of Visual and Performing Arts (VaPA).
