Hundreds of MCC students, employees and supporters walked through downtown
Rochester and High Falls District to MCC's new Downtown Campus on May 19, the
last day of classes, as they marked the beginning of a new chapter in the
College's history.
Participants paused along the way to greet Monroe County Executive Cheryl
Dinolfo and Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren, who joined in the celebratory 321
Countdown Walk led by MCC President Anne M. Kress and Downtown Campus Executive
Dean Joel Frater.
At the walk's conclusion, there were remarks from MCC student leader Irvin
Williamson, County Executive Dinolfo, Mayor Warren, Dr. Kress and Dr.
Frater.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a large digital clock
counting down the days until Sept. 5, the first day of fall classes. The clock
is now displayed in the 321 Cafe on campus. Anyone passing the campus along
Morrie Silver Way can see the clock.
In support of MCC's event, the Regional Transit Service provided
complimentary return transportation to Sibley Square, the starting point of the
walk.
The event was broadcast on Spectrum News, WHEC-TV (Channel 10), WHAM-TV/Fox
Rochester (Channel 13) and WXXI News (AM 1370).
