Hate Speech & Intolerance Has No Place at MCC
Along with outright injustice and violence, discrimination and
marginalization are common forms of intolerance that are counter to the
community that is valued and supported at Monroe Community College. As an
institution of higher education we teach tolerance as a way to counter fear and
exclusion of others. The diversity of our world's many religions, languages,
cultures and ethnicities is what makes us unique and binds us as human
beings.
Individuals who participate in behaviors that are contrary to our values of
integrity, excellence, empowerment, inclusiveness, collaboration and
stewardship - either anonymously or by way of purposeful intolerance - do not
reflect the type of College community we strive to build. We encourage all
members of the College community to seek to understand and appreciate the value
added by all who come to work and learn at Monroe Community College; regardless
of race, class, or religious beliefs.
Hate speech nor attempts at demeaning or intimidating others are welcomed
behaviors at Monroe Community College and we are committed to swiftly
addressing actions intended to cause harm to others. We must all be prepared to
hold ourselves to a higher standard.
