Matthew Vollmer Visiting Fiction Writer--November 15 and 16
On Thursday, November 15, 2018, visiting fiction writer Matthew Vollmer will
do a reading and book-signing in the Warshof Conference Center (Monroe A) from
7-8:00 PM. The event is free and open to the public. On Friday, November 16,
Vollmer will conduct a fiction writing workshop in 8-200 from 12-12:50 PM. This
event is free and open to the MCC community.
Matthew Vollmer is the author of two collections of short fiction,
Gateway to Paradise (Persea Books, 2015) and Future Missionaries of
America (published by MacAdam Cage and Salt Modern Fiction, 2010), as well
as Inscriptions for Headstones, a collection of essays (Outpost19,
2012). With David Shields, he is the co-editor of Fakes: An Anthology of
Pseudo Interviews, Faux-Lectures, Quasi-Letters, "Found" Texts, and
Other Fraudulent Artifacts (W. W. Norton, 2012). He was the recipient of a
2010 National Endowment for the Arts grant and the Sturm Award for Creative
Arts at Virginia Tech. His fourth book, Permanent Exhibit, a collection
of short prose originally published as status updates on a popular social media
platform, was published by BOA Editions Ltd. in the fall of 2018. The recipient
of a 2010 National Endowment for the Arts grant, as well as the Sturm Award for
Creative Arts at Virginia Tech, his work has been short-listed three times for
the Best American Short Stories series, and appears in Best American
Essays 2013.
