| I
will begin by saying that I have enjoyed every part of my fifteen years
of employment at Monroe Community College. I am blessed; I couldn't be happier
anywhere else doing anything else. I am usually in good spirits and energized
to meet each day. I approach each day as if it will be another beginning.
I simply love teaching. I can't wait until a new semester starts so I have
a new group of people to work with, new ideas and imaginations to stimulate
and grow. I thoroughly enjoy helping students work on projects and challenge
themselves to do more than they had ever expected to achieve. I would say
that I am someone that allows the individual to explore his or her imagination
without that person feeling insecure or intimidated. At the same time, I
provide a challenging atmosphere for learning so that those individuals
work with others in the classroom to explore new approaches to solving problems.
I would say
my strong point would be my gift of making people feel comfortable around
me and that especially means in the classroom. I attempt to make students
feel relaxed about asking questions, talking about their work and the
work of others. I hope they feel challenged to improve their skills not
to give just the status quo but to go beyond their limitations and feel
a sense of accomplishment. No one can get through to all their students
but one has to at least try. My hope is to make an impact on most of the
students and to challenge those who want to be challenged.
I have students
constantly coming back to visit, keeping me in touch with their progress,
and letting me know that they are okay with the world. That to me is proof
I have gotten through to them, that there was a good healthy relationship
and that those students want to have a continued dialogue with someone
who cared about who they were and where they ended up.
