In February 2001 I taught as part of our International Studies On-Location program: Art 175 Art and Museum Studies in Italy. This course met on the Brighton Campus three times prior to the actual travel and one more time for final presentations after the trip. The trip consisted of 7 days in Italy visiting galleries and architectural places in Rome and Florence. The group consisted 55 people, 32 of these individuals were students. I designed a web page for the Italy trip as well as a CD-ROM. The CD was distributed to all persons that took part of the trip. These students keep a journal/sketchbook of the trip, give two presentations, one prior to trip and one post trip, and write a 5-page paper on a topic of their choice based on study abroad.

Spring 2000 Art History and Museum Studies in Spain. This course met three times prior to the actual travel. The trip consisted of 7 days in Spain visiting galleries, in Barcelona, Madrid, and Bilbao. The group consisted 48 people, 16 of these individuals were students.

Spring 1999Art 175 Art History and Museum Studies in Paris. This course met three times prior to the actual travel. The trip consisted of 7 days in Paris visiting galleries, museums and walking tours of the parks, gardens and historical landmarks. The group consisted 48 people, 24 these individuals were students.

Spring 1996 Art 175 Art Travel Gallery and Museum Studies in London, England. This course met three times prior and once after the trip. The trip consisted of 14 days in London visiting galleries, museums and gardens. We attended four plays. The group consisted of 22 students and my self amongst other faculty from English and travel and tourism disciplines. This was the first trip I organized for travel abroad.

Web pages for Paris, Italy and NYC were designed by Brad Pease to enhance the seriousness of this project. Parents, family and friends were able to look on and see our day-to-day activities come to life before their eyes (if they had access to the world wide web)

ART 175-L02 - ART TRAVEL

Each Spring semesters for the past 15 years I have put together a trip that invites students and faculty to travel to New York City. This is usually a group of 40 students the rest faculty to travel to New York City for four days. The group takes part in 4-day itinerary visiting the major museum and gallery throughout NYC. Of these 40 students a good percentage are enrolled in the Art 175- NYC Art Travel course. These students keep a journal/sketchbook of the trip and write a 5-page paper on a topic of their choice based on NYC museums collections. The credits vary from year to year based on the hours of research and what art exhibits the students will be required to see and write about.
