ART 190 - INDEPENDENT STUDY

Each year I have had at least two students that have studied independently with me to gain knowledge of managing a gallery or other like art related projects in a specific area of interest. One videotaped and photographed the entire Student Art New York City Trip. He produced a video and CD-ROM of this adventure and presented the project to a group of interested students, faculty and staff. Another student worked on a project designing a Bi-monthly punk-rock magazine for a national music group and web page for Software Company. Others who worked in a design studios designing web pages for this up and coming design studio. Another worked as a Performing Arts Management position for a summer rock concert events at Darien Lakes Performing Arts Center.

Prior semesters I worked with a student with an emphasis on using Macromedia Director (multimedia authoring program) to develop a multimedia project depicting the Mercer Gallery's Collection of Mail Art Stamps. Another student who worked as special effects artists in Los Angeles for 2 years in the film industry conducted a demonstration for the college community on making a mask and makeup for Hollywood Horror Films. He made four masks in different stages and a sculpture project, making three complete projects. One semester another student worked independent on a project while traveling to Paris with the MCC Art 175 Group, His paper and research consisted on the significant contributions to art and architecture of Napoleon Bonaparte as the Emperor of France.

I have had numerous students working independently with an emphasis on Gallery Management and Publicity. One student worked with the Monroe Doctrine to produce The Arts Page, a weekly section to the paper. Two students teamed up to work on promoting, organizing and installing the Annual Student Art Organization. Others have worked on various projects consisting of installation and maintaining the gallery exhibitions.
