COM 105 - TYPOGRAPHY AND COMPOSITION

I co-developed and co-taught this course with instructor Jim Downer. I feel this course's success was due to the fact that we allowed the students to look at type in different ways. One of the more successful projects was a box design project.

The students had to look at type three dimensionally. We also took the students to Mount Hope Cemetery to look at type. We set them off with directions to find and identify 10 typefaces and to do grave stone rubbings of these certain typefaces (sort of a scavenger hunt). We took them to Wegmans Food Market to look at lettering design on packaging. While at Wegmans we took pictures with digital cameras and analyzed the photographs back in class the following day.
