INTRODUCTION

These trips are offered as a credit bearing course with variable credit dependent on the content and length of the trip. The trips to Europe are generally seven days and are a three credit course.

Cultural Trips

The trips to New York City, Chicago, Boston are usually 4 day trips and travel via chartered bus (see trip itinerary and course descriptions for details) This year we will travel abroad is to London, England, during the Winter Break February 14-23, 2003 (see more information about and of the trip to London). Other years we have traveled to Barcelona, Madrid, and Bilbao (Spain), Paris (France), Florence and Rome (Italy). This is our second time to London. We plan to go back to Paris, France in 2004. 

There are four pre-trip meetings one in October, December and January and February. The October meeting is a general meeting to get information meet others that will involved and put a deposit down on the trip. December meeting is final payments and final trip itinerary and room assignments . For January meeting will discuss course work assignments (presentations and research proposals) As stated, these trips are offered as a credit bearing course, however, I do allow faculty, staff, and alumni to part-take on these trips. Faculty, Staff, and Alumni do not necessarily have to take it for credit.

Requirements for participation on these trips:

  • Enthusiasm: Willingness to embrace a new culture without bringing along old bad habits.
  • To be in relatively good shape, have the ability to walk considerable distance, ability to take public transportation and walk approximately 3-4 miles in each of the museums. (getting in shape before any sightseeing trip is advisable). We do an incredible amount of walking you will need very comfortable and supportive shoes.
  • Journal/Sketch Book with Assorted Art Supplies/ Writing and drawing utensils pencils, drawing pens, graphite pencils, colored pencils, watercolor kit (small) glue stick, scissors etc.
  • Money to live on your own for the duration of the trip ( see trip budget for details)
  • Street smarts
  • Lots of patience and courtesy

PROMPT AND REGULAR ATTENDANCE AT ALL CLASS SESSIONS IS REQUIRED.

Due to the nature of this course, successful completion will be dependent upon your attendance at all points of interest -galleries, museums and special evening events is mandatory as well as completion of the final project: Sketchbook/Journal/Paper/Presentation and combinations of all. Please refer to the travel Itinerary as a supplement to the course syllabus. Note Attendance to all pre and post meetings is also mandatory.
