Saving the Arts…
Realizing the importance of Art and the questions raised by looking at it, reading it, and listening to it, you are appalled to learn that your local school district is seriously contemplating solving some of its budget problems by cutting the Arts curriculum, finding it expendable. You have decided that your mission is to save the Program by producing a document and making a presentation that will illustrate and argue for the fundamental place the Arts must hold in each of our lives.
Your Tasks:
Produce a final, hard copy document, a minimum of 15 pages (and a bibliography). |
Develop a clear organizing theme or principle. |
Include 2 pieces each of the following: |
Visual art/architecture |
Music |
Literature |
Include significant reference to our primary text. |
Include use of at least three outside articles from reputable sources. |
Include graphics, literature, music, photography, etc. |
Make the document aesthetically appealing, professional, and a project of which you are proud! |
General plan, including outline and representative works you plan to include: October 5, 2004 |
Working bibliography: November 16, 2004 |
*Presentation: last two weeks of class |
Hard Copy: December 14, 2004 |
*Presentations will be during the last two weeks of the semester. Each of you will “showcase” your project for the class and can do so in any number of ways. You will have 20 minutes to “present” your case to the Board of Education and interested public. Consider using video or Power point presentations and handouts.
