MCC Daily Tribune

Alert - Mandatory MFA Begins March 7

Starting one week from today, MFA (Multifactor Authentication) will be required for any user accessing Microsoft 365. You may not realize it, but all active MCC users have a 365 account, including faculty, staff and students.

  • Students will experience the largest impact from this change on March 7, because their email is in the Microsoft 365 cloud.  Please encourage any students with whom you have contact this week to enroll in MFA ahead of Monday's change to prevent issues or delays with their email access next week. There is an article in the Student Trib today which tells them how to enroll.

  • Most employees will not be impacted on March 7 unless they use 365 services such as Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, OneNote, etc. Sign on at myaccount.microsoft.com or office.com using your MCC userid and password to see your 365 account.

  • After March 7, additional systems will be added to require MFA.  The affected systems will be announced the prior week in the Trib. However, once you enroll in MFA you should be all set for each of the subsequent systems added to the MFA requirement.

  • It is important to enroll in MFA now to work out any kinks well in advance of when you must have MFA to log-on to a system that you use. Enrolling in advance helps spread out the demand on the help desks for users who need assistance.

  • If you took part in the MFA pilot for myMCC last fall, thank you for your participation. However, we are moving forward with a different MFA solution, so you will now have to enroll in the Microsoft MFA.

  • On the other hand, we will continue using the Duo MFA solution for VPN, so if you are using that please continue.

Please take the time to set up your MFA now to avoid getting an error message that will force you to enroll immediately when you try to sign in to any system requiring MFA from March 7 onward.

Enrollment instructions can be found at www.monroecc.edu/go/techtips - At the top of the page under Accessing MCC Systems-Multifactor Authentication (MFA) you will find links to a couple of pages that provide additional information.

There is an FAQ page that is updated regularly as new questions come in. Find it at https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/cns/multi-factor-enrollment/frequently-asked-questions/ .
