Brandt's play to be Performed at Theatre Conference in Alaska

English Professor Maria Brandt’s short play "The Root People" has been accepted to be workshopped as part of the 12th annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference Play Lab in Valdez, Alaska. Since its beginning in 1993, the conference has been sponsored by Edward Albee, who this year will deliver the Last Frontier Playwright Award to Tony Kushner. In addition to Albee and Kushner, Romulus Linney, John Guare, Angela Bassett, Lloyd Richard, Marian Seldes, Constance Congdon, and several other prominent theatre artists will be present, viewing the play labs and teaching sessions on playwriting, acting, and directing.

Additionally, “due to the caliber of [her] submission” of the full-length play Revolutions—which was not accepted for an actual play lab—Brandt also has been invited to a special session led by Linney and Congdon.
