Business Publication Discusses MCC's Partnerships with Employers, Community Agency

In recent editions of the Rochester Business Journal, two articles talked about MCC’s partnerships in the local community.

“Partnership showing benefits for students” (Sept. 30 issue) describes the Save for Success program offered at MCC in collaboration with MCC Foundation, ESL Federal Credit Union/ESL Charitable Foundation and PathStone Corp. The program provides financial literacy workshops and incentivizes disadvantaged students to put aside money toward their college education and related educational expenses. The goal is for program participants to eventually graduate from MCC and/or transfer to a four-year school. The article quotes Vilma Patterson, assistant director of student services at DCC who coordinates Save for Success; Charlotte Laughlin, a 2016 nursing graduate who benefited from the program; and Stuart Mitchell, PathStone president and CEO.

“Industry seeks to end shortage of workers here” (Oct. 7 issue) looks at how MCC is working with Eastman Business Park to generate increased interest among high school students in advanced manufacturing-oriented careers. On Thursday, Sept. 29, Eastman Business Park hosted Manufacturing Day, which included a presentation by MCC program representatives to high school students about local college degree programs and career paths in manufacturing. The article quotes Todd Oldham, vice president of Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services.
