MCC and the TCC Highlighted in New National Resource

Achieving the Dream (AtD) published their new comprehensive Teaching & Learning Toolkit on September 15, 2020 which highlighted best practices from 12 different colleges and systems. Gena Merliss, TCC Coordinator, was interviewed about MCC's use of Reflective Practice Groups (RPGs) in professional development.

Structured around AtD's four cornerstones for building a culture of teaching and learning excellence, the Toolkit has five chapters, sidebars of resources, and an appendix that bring together evidence-rich research to support self-assessment and planning. The case studies, such as ours, help campuses see what high impact strategies look like in practice.

I have attached the MCC case study and you can access the full Toolkit at https://www.achievingthedream.org/resource/18241/teaching-learning-toolkit-a-research-based-guide-to-building-a-culture-of-teaching-learning-excellence

I want to thank the many faculty and staff who have participated in RPGs over the last decade. These would not have been possible without our growing list of trained RPG facilitators:

  • Carlo Atene, Mathematics
  • Eraj Basnayake, Mathematics
  • Eric Berg, ESOL/Transitional Studies
  • Marj Crum, Visual and Performing Arts
  • Patrick Callan, English/Philosophy
  • Renee Dimino, SUNY GP and ESOL/Transitional Studies
  • Brian Edelbach, Chemistry/Geosciences
  • Shawanda Evans, Pre-collegiate Programs
  • Calvin Gantt, Chief Diversity Officer
  • Krista Hauschild, Schools/Pathways
  • Angelique Johnston, English/Philosophy
  • Charlene Linzy, EOP
  • Betty Mandly, Education/Human Services
  • Jim McCusker, ESOL/Transition Studies
  • Gena Merliss, Teaching and Creativity Center
  • Bob Muhlnickel, English/Philosophy
  • Bihn Nguyen, Information and Computer Technologies
  • Anjali Parasnis-Samar, Library
  • Eileen Radigan, Education/Human Services
  • Cari Rosario-Mathieu, Nursing
  • Joann Santos, CSTEP/STEP
  • Alice Wilson, Library

The excellent national reputation of the Teaching and Creativity Center is the result of the meaningful engagement of the TCC campus committees and the generous sharing of expertise and experience of our dedicated colleagues since 2001!
