Tracy Wyant and Susan Bender Present at National Service-Learning Conference

Performance and Presentation skills for Teachers: Integrating the Arts into Education Classes

This year the Community College National Center for Community Engagement conference was held in Arizona.  Professor Tracy Wyant, from the Education Department and Susan Bender, MCC Service-Learning coordinator, traveled to Arizona to present a service-learning project that was highlighted as a best practice at the conference this year.  The project was a part of EDU 150: Performance and Presentation Skills for Teachers, taught by Wyant, and was developed in honor of the 2010 presidential inauguration of Dr. Anne M. Kress.  Service-Learners in EDU 150 partnered with 2nd graders from School #58 to create original story books that they would then develop into exciting performances.  The performances were a smashing success, taking place at School #58 during inauguration week.  The books were copied with a generous donation from Xerox and all 200 of them will be donated to area child care centers.

The presentation was a great success and was a spectacular way to get national recognition for some of the many great things that happen here at MCC.  If you would like to learn more about the project, please feel free to contact Tracy Wyant at 262-1464 or Susan Bender at 2652-1710.
