President's Wednesday Message

During my remarks at All College Day, I asked that—as MCC approaches its next fifty years and its next strategic plan—we think about some central questions:

“How will we define and redefine Monroe Community College’s values for the future? What sets us apart? Makes us special?  What are the principles woven seamlessly through the fabric of our college that connect us so closely to our students and our community? What is the bedrock core of MCC that centers us each moment? ... Who should MCC be as we continue to grow up?”

I also mentioned that I would be hosting some sessions on this topic throughout the year. And, that’s the subject of this week’s message.

Beginning this month, I will be hosting a series of monthly gatherings at my home, “Fridays for the Future.” The goal is to bring a diverse mix of MCC faculty, staff, and students together in an informal setting to discuss these questions and think about MCC’s future (hence the name). To be beneficial, the dialogue needs to be honest, rich, and informed—so I am truly looking for a diverse mix of participants who will come ready to share their thoughts in exchange for coffee, tea, and homemade cookies. I’ve asked Assistant to the President Alberta Lee (<
mailto:alee@monroecc.edu>) to assist in compiling the guest list; if you are interested, please let her know.

Over the year (that is, through next summer), the Fridays for the Future should engage over 100 members of the MCC community, but as I did at All College Day, I would also encourage you to think about these questions with your colleagues and your students. I’d be happy to visit with you in your department/office meetings or classes to hear your thoughts.

Or, you can always share them on the
President's Wednesday Message blog or drop me an email (<mailto:akress@monroecc.edu>).
