BEST PRACTICES FOR DESIGN

Just because you can-does not mean you should

A well-designed course creatively leverages the options and recognizes the limitations of the online learning environment

Create opportunities for interaction with students and between students

Create/use activities that builds a sense of class community

Assume nothing

If you do something and it does not work (or it breaks something), do not do it again (ask for help)

Just because a course is online does not mean it all has to be online

Asynchronous online learning does not mean self-paced

Provide explicit instructional cues and directions for students

First make it work, then make it pretty
