Passing of Cheryl (Brown) Ward, Physical Education and Recreation

Sadly, the college was recently notified of the passing Assistant Professor Cheryl (Brown) Ward, formerly of MCC's Physical Education and Recreation Department. Cheryl passed away peacefully on August 15, 2017 at the age of 74.

A celebration of her life was held in Canandaigua in September. Memorial donations may be made in her name to: Cancer Wellness Connections, 7 Brickston Drive, Pittsford, NY 14534.

A native Rochesterian, Cheryl was a graduate of SUNY Cortland. She joined MCC in 1967 as an instructor in the Physical Education and Recreation Department. She was promoted to assistant professor in 1975 and became the coordinator of MCC's women's physical education in 1982. Cheryl loved running, skiing and traveling. She competed in the Boston Marathon in 1983. Cheryl retired from the college in 1986.

Cheryl is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren and her brother. Her husband, Bill, whom she met at MCC, passed away in 2016.
