Mask Wearing & Contact Tracing Updates

In following guidance from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH), MCC continues to require students, faculty, staff, and visitors—regardless of vaccination status—to wear masks inside college buildings until further notice.

Fully vaccinated students, faculty, and staff who are alone and not in a public or shared space may unmask.
Meetings or group activities held in conference rooms or other indoor spaces should be conducted with everyone being masked, regardless of vaccination status.

CDC continues to send the message that everyone in areas with high or substantial COVID-19 infection rates remain masked in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status, to help stop viral transmission and protect people’s lives and health.

Monroe County is a high transmission area, according to the CDC’s COVID Data Tracker. CDC data reported that the 7-day rolling average positivity rate for Monroe County is 5.82% as of Oct. 18. Weekly COVID-19 updates are posted on Monroe County’s website.

We all must remain vigilant and help protect each other from this health crisis. Wearing masks and getting vaccinated are proven to be effective in preventing serious illness, hospitalization and death and in protecting those around you, especially among the most vulnerable populations, including the immunocompromised.

Masks are available at various locations on campuses, at the Applied Technologies Center and at the Public Safety Training Facility. Face shields will be provided to those with qualifying medical accommodations: Students should contact Counseling and Disability Services; employees should contact Human Resources.

Contact Tracing
Overseen by New York state, contact tracing takes place on all confirmed cases. You will be notified to participate in contact tracing if you fall into one of the following circumstances:

Test positive for COVID-19.
Have been exposed to individuals who tested positive for COVID-19.
Are informed by a state or local health department or medical professional that you are “at risk” for having COVID-19.

If you get a call from “NYS Contact Tracing” (518-387-9993), please answer the phone.

MCDPH initiates the contact tracing process for MCC students, employees and visitors who reside in Monroe County. (Resident students may also be informed by MCC Health Services staff.)

State COVID Contact Tracers are trained to address your support needs and inform people who have had contact with you that they may have been exposed to the disease.

If an MCC student informs you that they are experiencing symptoms, please refer them to their medical care provider and/or an urgent care.
When a student tests positive for COVID-19, the student is required to contact MCC Health Services (healthsvc@monroecc.edu or 585-292-2018) and not present in-person to the office. Health Services staff will then advise the student on next steps.

Student failure to comply with contact tracing efforts, whether intentionally or unintentionally, may result in sanctions, including a suspension from academic and/or housing access with continued access to their academic program via remote learning only, an academic and/or housing suspension, or permanent dismissal from the institution.
