2nd Fest in FAFSA land

On March 3, 2018, MCC and the Rochester Education Foundation (REF) hosted a second FAFSA Fest for the 17/18 school year. The event, located at the new Downtown Campus, was open to all current and future students applying to college in need of assistance with the challenging financial aid process.

The event was well attended, with 43 students being served in a 2 hour window. When registering for the event, students were presented with two options based on the student's level of financial aid awareness and computer ability. These included:

  • "Express FAFSA" Experience: limited assistance for those who have some financial aid awareness and/or are comfortable using computers. This experience was provided in the Downtown Advising Center on the 3rd floor.
  • "1 on 1 FAFSA" Experience: provides a more dedicated approach for those not as familiar with financial aid and/or computers. This experience was provided in MCC's state-of-the art computer labs on the 5th floor.

This self-selection process allowed for a more streamlined and pleasurable customer experience, reducing wait times and improving throughput.

Each student, who attended the event and enrolls in the fall 2018 semester at MCC, will be entered into the drawing for one of two $500 MCC bookstore scholarships. The scholarships are sponsored by the MCC Foundation and awarded by the Rochester Education Foundation.

Between the two FAFSA fest events in the fall and spring semesters, 125 students were serviced and 276 visitors (relatives, family and friends, etc) experienced the downtown campus firsthand. Nearly all student participants completed their FAFSA online and about 2/3rds of the students indicated that MCC was one of their top college choices.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all our wonderful staff who made the FAFSA Fests successful. They include: staff from Enrollment and Financial Services, DC Student Services, Student Engagement Center, Admissions, Financial Aid, Save for Success, EOP, Downtown Student Leaders, Public Safety, Facilities, Parking Services, Sodexo, Bookstore/MCC Association and Rochester Education Foundation / RCAN.

MCC and REF... an inspiring force for our community
