SUNY Interim Chancellor Deborah F. Stanley's Response to Gov. Hochul's Executive Budget Proposal

“The State University of New York proudly serves New Yorkers with an affordable, accessible education that sets them on a path to achieve their dreams. From Governor Kathy Hochul’s first State of the State to [the Jan. 16] executive budget proposal, the Governor has set ambitious goals for our comprehensive system and has followed through with substantial funding to achieve her vision. The Governor is providing fiscal stability for our colleges and universities by investing in our faculty, and also eliminating the gaps in the Tuition Assistance Program at our state-operated campuses and providing a 100 percent funding floor for our community colleges. For our students, Governor Hochul continues to mitigate barriers to a college education through expanded investments in our Educational Opportunity Program, child care programs, TAP for part-time students, and other financial aid and resources to ensure their success.

Across SUNY, the 2023 executive budget proposal is significant—including help for our hospitals, specifically a financial bonus to our eligible nurses who have worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic. Their dedication to our hospitals and our patients has been an inspiration to us all.

On behalf of the SUNY community, and future generations of New Yorkers who will come to SUNY for their education, we applaud the Governor and look forward to the work ahead.” -- SUNY Interim Chancellor Deborah F. Stanley
